Perhaps all the downsizing, economizing, and belt-tightening called for in today's marketplace as gotten you down. Maybe you are no longer as enthusiastic as you once were about getting to work in the morning. While it's true that today's business climate is difficult, why not take the positive approach? Decide that you are going to take steps to enjoy your work, no matter what.
Try these suggestions for getting back on track:
1. Volunteer for high-visibility projects. By putting yourself front and center, you'll get your creativity and excitement flowing, and the old enthusiasm will automatically follow. You may meet new people, work with different departments or hone a new skill, any of which will give you something different to look forward to.
2. Take on new challenges. Join a committee and let your ideas be heard. Set your sights on a new position or a promotion and focus on motivating yourself to really go for it.
3. Sharpen your skills. Take a class at a local university or attend a professional seminar. Sign up for an in-house workshop. Learn something new or brush up on what you do best. It will give you a whole new outlook, plus offer new ideas for dealing with your regular day-to-day responsibilities.
4. Be open to suggestions. Friends and colleagues may have good ideas about how to get yourself motivated and more involved. Don't discount any advice until you've given it some thought and determined whether or not it could work for you.
5. Network. Join a professional organization, small business association or your local Chamber of Commerce. Chances are, other professionals are faced with the same challenges you are and exchanging ideas about how you cope can give you a whole new perspective on your job.
